AQIL VIRGIN VOYAGE

13 July, I have faced one of the scariest and heart pumping experiences of a mother. A 2 years old boy was hurt and had a deep cut above his right eyebrow. Blood oozed out and the boy ran out from his room and came to our room. I was guilt stricken as I scolded him to clean up his room. He was cleaning up his toys but he lost his footing and sat on one of compartment, lost his grip and his head hit the edge of the toys’ storage. He cried and said he was in pain. My heart hurt and I wept.

In the car, the son asked where we were going and I told him we are heading to hospital. He replied,"Aqil jatuh. Aqil nak go hospital." I gave a weak smile and calm down when he was back to self throughout the journey. During the first check up, the nurses asked if he had fainted or vomited which none had happened, I began to think of the negatives and was sure I could not cope if that really happened. Upon seeing the doctor, he tested on his eye sight and monitor his footstep and update us on the procedures and how to take care of the wound. Once again, worst scenarios came to my mind and I prayed hard. When it’s time to enter the treatment room for his stitches, my eyes were teary. No jab was given and I feared for my first son. He lied on the bed and the doctor applied some medication on his forehead. The father held his head and comforted him. He closed his eyes while the doctor did the 2 stitches. He didn’t utter any cries but tears rolled down my cheeks. It breaks my heart to witness what my first son had undergone.

The past few days, the boy cooperated well with taking the medication and applying the cream. He was still as active as ever and I kept a close tab on him. He was rather rough and I fear for his safety. I talked to him about the accident and told him not to scratch the wound. He could still relay to me what had happened on that day and I could see how he endures the itches of the healing wound. A week had passed and it’s time to remove the stitches. When I told him our expedition, he said,"Yeah,Aqil nak go hospital! Aqil nanti dapat sweet!" This boy really knows how to amuse us! He really didn’t cause any resistance and listen to the instructions very well during the removal of his stitches. Yes, he was given sweets and stickers by doctor for the being a good boy during the process.

Oh well, boys will always be boys! I guess scars and injuries are part of boys growing up stages. With 3 boys in hand, I must be mentally prepared. But still, please don’t test my heart condition to the maximum!
