We were looking forward and also nervous for our first born meet the parents’ session. This is a whole new experience for us and we talking about primary school education. This is the mark of her education journey. So pardon us with all the big excitement and anxiety in us. The curriculam is far cry from our generation. We were amazed by the current holistic and really wondered if the children can make their mark. But of course we are all for it because we can’t compare from our arena and the children are different now. For term 1 and 2, they learnt gymnastics for their physical education and Adriana aced in that. For term 3 and 4, they will be having swimming and we are sure it will not be an issue for this daughter of mine.
The good thing about the meet the parents’ session is that is it based on appointment. With her name listed first in class, she got the first time slot 8am. I saved on my annual leave and resumed back to work after that. We were very proud of her results and she had shown tremendous improvement. She got excellent grades and the teacher praised on her determination and of course on her neat work. Even her mother tongue teacher noticed on how perfectionist she is in her work. The malay students were actually graded during the start of school and were placed in classes according to their capabilities. It was a little embarrassing for us to have the girl to be in the last class and disappointed with the results of her malay assignments because this is our language. But she worked very hard and bucked up and overall scored 93.3 for her malay language. She scored 95.5 and 96.2 for her English and Mathematics respectively and her teacher told her to keep her good work and to just keep on practicing during the school holidays. The only thing we need to work on is to build up her confidence and get her to be more vocal!
