THE MARK OF EDUCATION FOR THE FIRST BORN

One of the main factors that made us chose our estate is the kids’ schools. The district that is accessible to their pre-school, primary, secondary and even tertiary level. We were just across on our choice preschool and surrounded by 4 primary schools within 1km. There are quite a number of promising secondary schools and even junior college, polytechnics and institute technical education.

EV and J are located right under our nose whereas ST just slightly further and T is the furthest, across the bridge. Initially EV was my pick because it just a 5 mins walk and my eldest sister 2 daughters are there too. As a paranoid mother, I hope there will be someone who can look after her in the school. But EV look rather run down and the fear of it to be renovated in the future and transfer to another temporary site, made me think twice. I don’t want to take the risk if that happened and what if the temporary venue is much further away. J is just next door but somehow let just say I don’t fancy the school. ST is actually on our right hand side but looking at past traces I doubt our children will secure a place. Then the father noticed T and their newly renovated venue with advance technology caught his attention. So I made research on the school and reading up the records, I am impressed and it’s a bonus that the school made to the Top 20.

Phase 2C was conducted on 27, 28, 29 July. We made our way to TPS on 28 July morning. The registration went well and we still pray hard even we are within 1km because the registrar mentioned that there’s about 27 slots left. I monitored the MOE website and was anxious when each day ended and the website updated the latest figures. On the last day I checked, 123 numbers of children registered out of 118 vacancies available. I was afraid. What if my daughter never gets through? Is her fate with EV? Because we thought if she didn’t get T, our next choice had to be EV.

On 2 August, I checked the website again out of curiosity. My heart when pumping when I saw it had updated on the schools that had to be balloted and was nervous as I scrolled down to find TPS name. I was so thankful when the tick was on the between 1km to 2km column and super duper happy that no balloting needed for within 1km. Yesterday the official letter from the school arrived. I was beaming with joy when I read, “Your child has been successful in securing a place for Primary One in my school and please bring your child to school for orientation on 18 Nov 2011 at 2pm.” Syukur Alhamdulillah, my first born got an admission; TPS welcome Adriana! It was a journey mixed with excitement and anxiety feeling. As a first timer parents, we had survived the process and it will Phase 1 for the boys in the future, Insya Allah!
